Welcome to our village...
     Ban Pang Kwai falls within the government zoned Moo 4, and is the first village encountered along the road into the Mae Tam catchment - about 1km in from the main Chiang Mai / Chiang Rai Road. Pang Kwai means "water buffalo pen" and was the area where the lowland dwellers traditionally kept the water buffaloes used to plow their rice paddies. Nineteen years ago, a group of Lahu villagers from up the Mae Yang Min valley (in Ban Bala) wanted to relocate closer to the town for educational and work opportunities. Their leader approached the owner of the water buffalo fields and requested to buy the land to set up this village. Now it is a small community of it's own with only 18-20 households.

No land rights & not enough land for cultivation 7. HIV/AIDS infected people with no help 8. Insufficient lighting in some areas of the village
